Romy Friedman

Romy Friedman is results-focused and people-oriented Science & Maths teacher with a passion for life-long learning and promotion of scientific education and literacy. She is an innovative teacher who has served as an active member of various departments and schools and has had a diversity of experience in various curricula and countries. With a solid understanding of mathematical and scientific concepts, Romy is a knowledgeable leader who has successfully guided students through a variety of external assessments – IGCSE and IB external examinations, IB extended essays and externally moderated internal assessments in such areas as laboratory and project work.

As Head of Secondary Science and a Maths teacher, Romy oversaw the move to a new campus. This included ordering and organizing the move from one general laboratory to four specific laboratories – Biology, Chemistry, Physics and General Sciences; ensuring that each laboratory met health and safety requirements and had the necessary equipment for course requirements. She successfully led the Science department in the induction of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and helped to modify the former curriculum to prepare students for this course of study.

Romy’s broad and diverse range of accountabilities include effectively planning and executing new curriculum; leading a large department within the school; liaising with other departments within the school; ensuring safety regulations for the Science department are met; compiling reports for school accreditation; mentoring new teachers; counseling students in respect to subject and university choices; individual care of students through mediation & advising; and commenting upon personal statements and further education applications.

Romy is a natural communicator committed to providing a safe, encouraging and effective learning environment built on mutual respect and trust. As a high school teacher, and published scientific author, she is dedicated to encouraging holistic learning, has a passion for life-long learning and the promotion of scientific education and literacy which she has demonstrated through the establishment of events such as the Science Symposium and Science Fair. She continues to display her dedication to all aspects of a child’s education through her participation in the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and as an elected teacher representative for the Student council.
