• This is my personal favourite overall textbook! I find it has the best (coloured) illustrations and information, including all options. A book for just the SL is also available.

Publisher: IBID Press
ISBN: 978-1-876659-02-8
• This option is okay, however it does not have colour and it is a bit simplistic for those students aiming for higher grades.

Name: Biology

• This book has colour but is not as in-depth or well explained as the Heinemann.

General IB Textbooks

Name: Biology 7th Ed. International
Publisher: Pearson
ISBN: 0-321-26984-5
• This is a wonderful general Biology textbook; however, it is at the University level. It can still be used by IB students however, those students who are weak academically will find it has too much information or it is too complicated.
• I find the best use of this book is as a teacher reference for my own notes or coloured diagrams, with a copy available for student reference; for example, in the library.

• A black & white condensed guide, this is a good tool for students to use for memorization. It contains all the basic information that needs to be memorized for the course.

Name: Biology Course Companion
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 978-0-19-915125-5
• An excellent tool for both teachers and students. If the school does not provide students with this book, I high recommend they purchase it themselves. It is a great investment for the two years.
• It has alternative or more explanation of certain topics, with data-based and theory questions throughout the book.
• I have taken many labs from this book to use for my IA assessment laboratory work.

• Another great resource, more for teachers than students. This book offers many labs that can be used for the laboratory component of the course.
